Actress Drew Barrymore's career has spanned decades, from her breakout role in 1982's "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" to the eponymous talk show she hosts today. Now, she'll add another accolade: godmother of the MSC World America, MSC Cruises' new U.S. flagship.

The ship's naming ceremony will take place on April 9 at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal. Alongside actor Orlando Bloom, Barrymore will set off the traditional breaking of the champagne bottle. Bloom co-stars with Barrymore in MSC's "Let's Holiday" ad campaign.

"I absolutely love to travel -- it fuels my soul -- and being part of something that helps people set off on incredible adventures is just amazing," Barrymore said. "There's something so magical about cruises; they let you discover the world in this really fun, unexpected way. And to be able to name MSC World America and send the ship off with well wishes and good luck is such an honor."

MSC Cruises USA executive vice president of marketing, e-commerce and sales Suzanne Salas called Barrymore "the perfect godmother for MSC World America."

"She embodies our brand perfectly, with her exquisite style and grace and her passion for the comfort and adventure we find through travel," Salas said.

Barrymore and Bloom will be joined by dignitaries, travel advisors and media. The ship will then embark on a three-night sailing to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas. While there, the MSC Foundation will hold a ribbon-cutting for its new Marine Conservation Center, which will be used as an educational facility for guests and as a hub for the foundation's Super Coral Programme.

The MSC World America is the second in MSC's World class. It will have seven districts, including an adults-only area, a family zone and entertainment hubs. The ship will have 19 dining venues, 18 bars and lounges. and the Harbour, a new outdoor venue with the Cliffhanger over-water swing ride, a water park and a ropes course.

The ship will sale eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. Every sailing will call at Ocean Cay.
