Norwegian Cruise Line will "Bring Back the 90s" and music from other past generations as it rolls out four new original productions by the end of summer.

NCL said the new shows are the result of consumer insight and guest feedback calling for recognizable music appealing to multiple generations.

"Bring Back the 90's" was created by theater artist and director Scott Weinstein and will offer a nostalgic journey through the decade, featuring songs from Alanis Morissette, Salt-N-Pepa and Destiny's Child. NCL says it will be a 50-minute, high-energy show with vignettes celebrating the decade's fashion, pop culture, music and trends through dance, vocals and multimedia design.

"Bring Back the 90's" will feature NCL's first collaboration with DJ duo "The Hood Internet," whose mashups put a new spin on the music. Choreography is by James Alonso White, known for his work with "Sesame Street" and the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade," with assistance from Nycole Altchiler, who most recently worked on Sabrina Carpenter's "Short n' Sweet" tour.

The show debuted on the Norwegian Getaway's March 2 sailing and will debut aboard the Norwegian Joy during its July 7 Alaska sailing from Seattle.

Brits who made it big in America

Another show is "Red, White and British," a production developed with long-time NCL collaborator Burn the Floor. The production features music from British musical performers and artists who achieved U.S. stardom, like David Bowie and Queen. The show will debut on the Norwegian Breakaway's March 14 cruise, the Norwegian Epic's May 14 Greek Isles sailing and the Norwegian Prima's Northern Europe cruise on Aug. 24.

Legendary bands and red-carpet style

"Icons: The Bands" will feature songs from legendary bands of various generations. The show stars the nine-person cast from the Norwegian Encore's "Choir of Man," plus director and choreographer Stacy Walker, who worked with Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. The show will premiere on March 30 on the Encore during its Panama Canal sailing and on May 25 on the Norwegian Escape while cruising the Caribbean from Miami.

"Ignite the Night" will feature choreography from Britt Stewart, a professional dancer seen on "Dancing with the Stars." The production will blend the visual appeal from iconic awards shows and red-carpet events with a mix of dance, style and design. The show debuted on the Norwegian Jewel during its March 2 Caribbean cruise from Tampa and will debut on the Norwegian Gem's Canada and New England sailings from Quebec City on Sept. 5.

Each new show was created by NCL's in-house entertainment team at Norwegian Cruise Line Holding's Creative Studios in Tampa.

In addition to the new shows, NCL will launch "Mini Moments of More" outside the main theater space with entertainment popups across the fleet. The line said to expect flash mob performances throughout the ships, such as near the pool, in dining rooms and the atrium.

The new shows mark a departure away from Broadway-style productions. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Harry Sommer told travel advisors at CruiseWorld in November that guests prefer NCL-produced shows over Broadway-style ones.
