Elewana Collection, a luxury safari operator in East Africa, has opened Serengeti Explorer, the first property under its newly launched Explorer by Elewana brand. Designed to bridge the gap between traditional safari camps and ultraluxury lodges, the new lodge offers an upscale yet accessible experience with expanded amenities and activities.

Located in the western corridor of Serengeti National Park, Serengeti Explorer is positioned high on Nyaboro Hills, providing panoramic views across the plains. Its central but secluded location places guests within reach of key migration routes while offering a private retreat away from busier areas of the park.

A defining feature of Serengeti Explorer is its on-site wildlife hide, which Elewana says is a first for the Serengeti. Overlooking a watering hole frequently visited by game, it enables guests to observe wildlife up close without leaving the lodge. The hide is accessed via an underground tunnel from within the property, offering discreet viewing opportunities for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike. The lodge features 74 rooms -- 68 explorer rooms and six suites -- all with private balconies overlooking the surrounding landscape.

"The launch of Explorer by Elewana marks an exciting milestone for our group," said Karim Wissanji , group chairman and CEO at Elewana Collection. "This safari lodge concept fills a unique niche by targeting the needs and price point of midmarket safari guests while delivering immersive experiences in some of Africa's most iconic landscapes."

Activities galore

Beyond game drives, Serengeti Explorer offers a range of experiences including walking safaris with expert guides, stargazing sessions led by an astronomy specialist and cultural programming such as an art gallery showcasing local talent and African craft workshops. A children's bushcraft center caters to families looking for interactive learning experiences in nature.

Elewana plans to expand its new brand further with Ngorongoro Explorer set to open in 2026 , followed by Tarangire Explorer.

Rates at Serengeti Explorer start at $750 per room, per night on full board or $1,230 per room per night for game package stays (both based on two adults plus one child under 12).
