National Geographic Expeditions unveiled a Southern Africa tour for 2026. Dubbed Southern Africa: Living History and Legendary Species, the nine-day itinerary will immerse travelers in the rich history, culture and wildlife of South Africa and Zambia.

Developed as part of the company's Signature Land portfolio, the expedition aims to provide an authentic look at the region with the help of National Geographic experts and local guides.

"This new offering allows our guests to deeply connect with the wonders of Southern Africa while continuing our legacy of global exploration," said Nancy Schumacher, senior vice president at National Geographic Expeditions. "From observing iconic wildlife to learning about local traditions, it provides special access to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities."

Highlights of the tour include a cable car ride up Table Mountain in Cape Town, spotting endangered penguins at Boulder Beach, searching for the Big 5 -- lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and Cape buffalo -- on safari drives in Kruger National Park and witnessing the breathtaking Victoria Falls in Zambia.

Cultural immersion plays a key role, with visits to the District Six Museum, interactions with local San communities, and time in the working village of Mukuni to learn about the Leya people's centuries-old way of life.

Conservation messaging will be woven throughout, including meeting with experts in Kruger about wildlife preservation. The tour also supports National Geographic's impact initiatives.
